Terms of Business

These terms of business set out the basis on which Hartley & Associates will provide legal services to you. Please read them carefully and contact us if you have any questions.

Our Regulatory Status

Hartley & Associates is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA No. 648291). We are bound by the SRA Standards and Regulations, which can be accessed at www.sra.org.uk.

Our Services

We will confirm the scope of our services in a client care letter sent at the outset of each matter. Our advice is specific to the matter on which we are instructed and should not be relied upon for other purposes without our written confirmation.

Fees

Our fees are calculated on the basis of time spent, the complexity and urgency of the matter, and the level of expertise required. We will provide an estimate or fixed fee at the outset where possible. VAT is charged at the prevailing rate.

Payment Terms

Invoices are payable within 14 days of the date of issue. We may require payment on account before commencing work or at stages during a matter. Interest may be charged on overdue accounts.

Confidentiality

We treat all client information as confidential and will not disclose it to third parties without your consent, except where required by law or regulatory obligation.

Complaints

We are committed to providing an excellent standard of service. If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our service, please contact our Managing Partner, James Hartley, at enquiries@hartleylaw.co.uk. Our complaints procedure is available on request. If we are unable to resolve your complaint, you may be entitled to refer it to the Legal Ombudsman at www.legalombudsman.org.uk.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

We maintain professional indemnity insurance in accordance with SRA requirements. Details of our insurers are available on request.

Limitation of Liability

Our liability to you for any matter shall not exceed the greater of £2 million or the minimum amount required by the SRA, unless we agree a different limit in writing.
